Using Photos Of Your Products: Photo Business Cards As A Mini Portfolio
 Photo
business cards offer a great opportunity to show off your products or
your work. You can choose a few of your most popular items to display
in a variety of layouts as a miniature portfolio. Photographers and artists
seem to choose this style quite frequently and it has proved to be exceptionally
effective. But just about any business can use this type of layout.
One of the most popular and effective layouts for a portfolio on photo
business cards is a collage, where the photos are slightly overlapping.
This also allows you to use more photos in the limited space available
on a standard business card size: 2" x 3.5". Another popular
layout for portfolio photo business cards is what I call, 'quartered';
four photos, each taking up a quarter of the business card. This means
that each photo is displayed at about one inch by one and three quarter
inches on the business cards. This seems awfully small, but with good
resolution photos, it can be quite effective. And, remember, your photo
business cards are not meant to be the only contact your customers have
with you, their purpose is to drive customers to your store, gallery,
showroom or website.
If you choose to go with two-sided business cards, your layout options
get much better. For the most affordable option, you can display your
photos on the front of the business cards in full color and list your
contact information on the back in black text. You can also place your
collage of photos on the front of the business cards in full color and
place your contact info on the back over a background photo, also in full
color. For your business card background photo, you could use a photo
of your showroom or one of your favorite products that you might want
to display larger than the rest.
Fold-Over Business Cards are also readily available. With this option,
you have four times as much space to work with. You can use a large photo
on the front of the business cards with your company logo in one corner,
then print a portfolio on the inside of the fold-over business cards.
The inside of fold-over business cards has twice the space available as
standard business cards; 3.5" x 4" as opposed to 3.5" x
2"! Then on the back, list all of your contact info along with yet
another large photo.
If you're not confident in your ability to design such a portfolio for
your photo business cards, a good graphic designer can create an attractive
and effective layout that will showcase your work.
Most printing companies that sell photo
business cards to the public offer graphic design services, usually
listed on their websites as 'Custom
Designed Business Cards". These websites usually offer a place
for you to upload your photos for business cards, as well.
